Dr. Dmitry Momotenko: Manipulating matter at the nanoscale - from trapped particles to complex 3D nanostructures

Manipulating matter for creating nanostructures is a challenging task, which is in high demand for a plethora of applications in micro- and nanotechnology and beyond. In this talk, two strategies for assembling materials at the nanoscale will be discussed: nanoparticle trapping with electroosmotic flow to create nanoscale Raman spectroscopy probes; and electrodeposition, for additive manufacturing of metallic objects at the nanoscale. The former approach employs voltage-driven convection that allows to controllably trap and release single or multiple plasmonic particles at the tips of glass nanopipettes. The latter strategy is based on electrodeposition, a wellestablished method traditionally used to produce metallic coatings or thin films, which however can be taken into a three-dimensional realm using layer-by-layer additive process, allowing to produce complex nanostructures. This talk will highlight the recent advances in these technologies including instrumental aspects, performance metrics, materials characteristics, as well as preliminary experimental results towards tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy on nanoparticle-based tips. cutting-edge spectroelectrochemical characterization, and lead to highly efficient energy storage and conversion solutions in two dimensions.

Dr. Dmitry Momotenko was born in Sumy, Ukraine in 1987. He obtained a PhD in École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland) in 2013 and then he worked for several years at Laboratory of Biosensors and Bioelectronics, ETH Zürich. Now Dr. Momotenko is the Head of a Junior Research Group at the Department of Chemistry School of Mathematics and Sciences in Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, where he also received ERC Starting Grant.
