Postdoctoral researcher in spectroelectrochemistry of 2D semiconductors

The succesful applicant will work with Dr. Matěj Velický and his team on a five-year project exploiting tunable electrochemistry and spectroscopy of two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors. The aim of the project is to develop a state-of-the-art in-situ spectroelectrochemical method for characterization and control of 2D materials' physical properties. To achieve this, the researcher will combine electrolyte gating with electronic transport and/or Raman/photoluminescence spectroscopy measurements at a micro- and nanoscale. He/she will then apply this instrumentation to on-demand tuning of the optical, electronic, and electrochemical properties of 2D materials, particularly semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs). Specific topics, which will be investigated, include electronic transport at high-doping regimes in 2D materials induced by electrolyte gating, tuning the interaction between 2D materials and substrates, and elucidation of the charge screening breakdown in concentrated electrolytes. This position is available for up to five years.

Our team is part of a larger collaboration with the groups of Dr. Otakar Frank, Dr. Martin Kalbáč, and Prof. Ladislav Kavan, including more than 30 postdocs and PhDs. Our international collaborations include organizations in the UK, US, Germany, Hungary, New Zealand, and Finland. Offer starting date: January 2022

You will have a PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science or related fiels or will be close to obtaining one. You will have an excellent understanding of, and experience in, Raman and/or photoluminescence spectroscopy, electronic transport and/or electrochemistry, and 2D materials. You will be well versed in scientific work, including formulation of research plans, designing experiments, data analysis, formulation of conclusions and manuscript writing. We are looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic colleague with excellent communication skills, who is able to work within a large team of researchers. The applicant will have a good track-record of publishing research articles in respected journals, commensurate with his/her career stage.

Desirable criteria include experience in Raman spectroscopy of TMDCs, TERS, micro-/nano-scale electrochemistry (microdroplet, SECM, SECCM), development of in-situ spectroelectrochemical methods, scanning probe microscopy, 5+ publications in high-impact journals.
